Hello everyone, welcome back to Grassroots Piano. Today, we will be focusing on chord progressions and learning four different left-handed rhythm patterns.

This video is specifically designed for beginners who are looking to improve their piano skills. If you're new to piano, make sure to check out my other playlists for step-by-step lessons. The goal of this channel is to provide value and help you learn in a progressive manner, so you can avoid frustration and enjoy playing music throughout your lifetime. Let's get started!

"Good practicing and scale work is well worth your time." - Jim from Grassroots Piano

Pattern 1: G Major Chords

We will begin by working with G major chords. As a refresher, here's the G major scale.

If you're interested in learning scales, I also have videos on that topic. In this lesson, we will focus on four chords: the root position, the fifth chord (D major), the sixth chord (E), and the fourth chord (C). We will be playing in 4/4 time with quarter notes. Let's start by transitioning from G major to E minor and then to C major. Remember to play the roots in the right hand. Take your time and play at your own pace, as long as you maintain quality in your playing.

Pattern 2: Ascending with Eighth Notes

In the next pattern, we will be using eighth notes in the left hand. Start by practicing ascending with the root, third, and fifth notes, and then end with the root note.

In the right hand, play the corresponding chords. Take it slow and focus on accuracy and coordination between the hands.

Pattern 3: Descending with Eighth Notes

For the third pattern, we will be descending with eighth notes in the left hand. Start with the root note and go down to the fifth note, then transition to the next chord.

In the right hand, play the chords as well. Practice this pattern slowly and gradually increase the speed.

Pattern 4: Tricky Left-Hand Pattern

The fourth pattern is a bit more challenging. Break down the left-hand pattern into two parts: going up and then back down, ending on the fifth note before transitioning to the next chord.

In the right hand, play whole notes. Take your time and practice this pattern with patience and precision.
